Welcome to the Outer Banks! We are so excited to have you join us in this special place. One of the reasons we love the OBX so much, especially Corolla, is that we can truly unplug and unwind here. It's worth the journey, we promise!

Consider driving to the Outer Banks since the closest airport is over 2 hours away and you will need a vehicle to get everywhere once you arrive. PLEASE NOTE: you will need a 4WD vehicle if you intend to drive on the sand to get to the Chesapeake.

Drive to the OBX

PLEASE TAKE NOTE: The Chesapeake is located in the 4x4 section of Corolla known as Carova. You MUST drive a 4WD or AWD vehicle (4WD is better) to drive successfully on the sand. The website below will tell you everything you need to know; please review carefully.

More On Driving on the Sand

Norfolk International Airport (ORF) is the closest regional airport to the Outer Banks and is approximately a 2.5 hour drive to The Chesapeake.Richmond International Airport (RIC) is approximately a 4 hour drive to The Chesapeake.Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) is approximately a 5 hour drive to The Chesapeake. If you need transportation from the airport, please contact Island Limo Outer Banks. If you intend to rent a jeep when you arrive on the Outer Banks, you can visit Outer Banks Jeep Rentals or Enterprise - Kill Devil Hills. The Enterprise at the Norfolk Airport can also help arrange 4WD transportation to get you from the airport to The Chesapeake. In all cases, if you intend to drive to the Chesapeake, please be sure to tell the rental car agency you are driving on sand and need a 4WD vehicle!

Air Travel and Rental Cars

Whether you fly or drive to the Outer Banks, you have the option of parking in a designated spot at the Twiddy, Corolla office, leaving your car and getting a ride to The Chesapeake. Please call Twiddy in advance of your arrival to make arrangements and reserve your spot.

Not Ready to Drive on the Sand?

Room&nbsp;block&nbsp;information&nbsp;is&nbsp;coming&nbsp;soon.&nbsp;This&nbsp;hotel&nbsp;sells&nbsp;out&nbsp;quickly&nbsp;so&nbsp;please&nbsp;book&nbsp;as&nbsp;soon&nbsp;as&nbsp;possible&nbsp;by&nbsp;CALLING&nbsp;the&nbsp;local&nbsp;number.

Hampton Inn & Suites Outer Banks/ Corolla

This small Inn is the closest hotel to the Chesapeake.

Wild Horse Inn

This small Inn is also close to The Chesapeake.

Corolla Village Inn

If you plan to book a house near The Chesapeake (in the 4x4 area of Carova), please contact Twiddy and they can help you find a house near The Chesapeake. Beware of staying further then 2 miles north of the house (driving is slow on the beach). If you plan to book a house on the paved roads, please look in the Whalehead Beach section of Corolla. Twiddy is a great resource and will help be sure you are not too far from The Chesapeake.

Dress Code

The Outer Banks is an outdoor paradise with beautiful, wide open beaches, wooded parks and trails, and sound side sunsets. The best way to enjoy your visit is to go outside for a walk or run, kayak on the sound, play a round of golf, hike a sand dune, climb a lighthouse, picnic at Currituck Heritage Park, surf the ocean, or sit outside and let the magic surround you.
